PCG, DICT to install radio equipment in Misamis Oriental to better monitor vessel ops

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology will intensify the monitoring of vessels in Misamis Oriental with the installation of radio equipment.

In a statement on Tuesday, the PCG said its District Northern Mindanao branch and DICT Region 10 will install a radio repeater at Sipaca Point in the municipality of Talisayan.

These facility tower and equipment offered by the DICT can reach a range of 50 nautical miles, the PCG said.

“The project is expected to enhance maritime response operations for the benefit of domestic and international vessels transiting within the region,” it added.

During their June 18 meeting, PCG Station Northeastern Misamis Oriental commander Lieutenant Junior Grade Stephen Pagcaliwagan and DICT - Region 10 Assistant Regional Director Leo Ugto discussed the installation details after the conduct of joint area survey and evaluation.

Ugto thanked the PCG for improving maritime response operations to promote safety of navigation at the vicinity waters off Misamis Oriental.  —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
