VP Leni’s vaccine project to reach Cagayan de Oro —Rodriguez

House Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez on Tuesday said Vice President Leni Robredo’s #VaccineExpress program would be expanded to Cagayan de Oro.

Rodriguez confirmed to GMA News Online that he had a meeting with Robredo’s camp to finalize the matter.

“On the vaccine express, we will request vaccines from the IATF [Inter-Agency Task Force]. On Bayanihan E-consulta, we are in the process of finalizing it,” he said.

The lawmaker had appealed to Robredo to expand her vaccination project to Visayas and Mindanao. Robredo’s program was launched in coordination with the Manila City government, wherein those agreed to be vaccinated got incentives.

The OCTA Research had reported that Cagayan de Oro was among those tagged as areas of concern in Visayas and Mindanao, along with the cities of Davao, Bacolod, Iloilo, and Tacloban.

Rodriguez had said the vaccine supply situation in the province had already improved after he called out government officials for supposedly neglecting the COVID-19 situation in Mindanao.

Earlier, Robredo suggested that Davao City should learn from the experience of Cebu City to address the steady rise of COVID-19 cases in the city in Mindanao.

But presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte criticized Robredo’s statement, citing the latter doesn’t know anything about the situation in Mindanao.

Rodriguez, for his part, said politics should not get in the way of extending assistance to provinces in need of the vaccine, adding that he found nothing wrong in him or any other local government unit asking help from Robredo.

In its latest report, OCTA said the occupancy rate of hospital beds was in the critical risk classification at 85% in Tacloban. The same figure was also high or greater than 70 percent in Davao City, Iloilo City, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, and Baguio City.

Davao City’s ICU utilization rate (ICUR) has reached critical levels at 93%; Iloilo City, 96%; General Santos, 86%; Koronadal, 100%, and Cabuyao, 86%.

“ICU utilization rates were at critical levels in Davao City, Iloilo City, General Santos, Koronadal, and Cabuyao, while ICUR were at high levels in Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Baguio City, Tacloban, Tagum, Zamboanga City, and Batangas City,” OCTA added. —AOL, GMA News
