Homicide raps filed vs. Laguna cops over death of 16-year-old in anti-drug op

A homicide complaint has been filed against 10 personnel of Laguna Provincial Police Office (PPO) over the death of 16-year-old Johndy Helis in an anti-drug operation in Biñan City last month, the Police Regional Office 4A said Tuesday.

PRO4A chief Police Brigadier General Eliseo Cruz said the Fact Finding Investigation Task Group filed the case before the City Prosecutor of Biñan City on Monday.

The complaint was filed against the personnel of Laguna PPO Provincial Intelligence Branch including its head, Police Captain Fernando Credo, and nine others.

“Be informed that the PRO4A Fact Finding Investigation Task Group filed the case of Homicide yesterday against the personnel of PIB Laguna PPO led by PCAPT FERNANDO CREDO with nine (9) others,” Cruz said in a message to reporters.

The complaint was filed based on the complaint-affidavit of Helis’ mother, Cruz added.

On June 16, Helis and his companion Antonio Dalit were killed during the supposed serving of arrest warrant against Dalit for alleged violation of Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

According to the police, the two fought it out with the arresting authorities.

The family of Helis, however, denied the police's claim, saying the teenager was handcuffed when he was shot.

According to a relative of Dalit, the suspect had no firearm contrary to the police's claim, adding that the weapon that the police presented was an Airsoft gun.  —KBK, GMA News
