At least 1,700 Rizal residents evacuate due to flooding threat from monsoon rains


At least 1,700 individuals evacuated in three municipalities in Rizal amid the threat of flooding due to heavy monsoon rains, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said Saturday.

The NDRRMC said the Rizal Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that 29 families or 121 individuals evacuated in Taytay and are staying in three evacuation centers.

In San Mateo, a total of 45 families or 216 individuals evacuated and are temporarily housed in one evacuation center.

Meanwhile, in Rodriguez, 365 families or 1,439 individuals left their homes and are staying in six evacuation centers. 

The NDRRMC said the data are for validation of the Department of Social Welfare and Development regional office.

Meanwhile, more than 300 individuals evacuated in Cainta due to flooding, Cainta Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Eric Arevalo said, according to a report by Jhomer Apresto on Super Radyo dzBB.

The evacuees are staying in nine evacuation centers.

Among the areas flooded in Cainta as of posting time are Village East, San Isidro, Sto. Niño, Sto. Domingo and San Juan.

PAGASA earlier said several areas in Luzon may expect monsoon rains on Saturday, which will continue to affect the country as Typhoon Fabian exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Abra, Benguet, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Northern Palawan including Calamian Islands will be affected by the monsoon, PAGASA added. —KG, GMA News
