One dead, 15 rescued as RoRo passenger ship tilts in Ormoc City, Leyte

A crew member was found dead while 15 others survived after a RoRo passenger ship listed on its starboard side in Ormoc City, Leyte on Friday night.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) identified the fatality as Raquel Alo, 33, the ship’s purser, who was reportedly trapped inside the vessel.

The victim’s body was found before dawn under several cargoes carried by the MV Lite Ferry 3, the PCG said.

The PCG then turned over the body to the Omoc City Scene of Crime Operation for proper disposition. The victim’s body was thereafter transported to a funeral home at around 5 a.m. on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the 15 crew members rescued were turned over to the Ormoc City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) for medical assistance, the PCG said.

The Coast Guard added that they have advised the captain of the vessel to file a marine protest.

The vessel was conducting a docking maneuver at the Ormoc Port in Ormoc City, Leyte at around 11:50 p.m. on Friday when it started listing on its starboard side. —KG, GMA News
