The daily COVID-19 cases in Benguet rose to around 400 from the usual 10 to 20 infections, Governor Melchor Diclas said on Monday.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, Diclas said the province now has 3,184 active cases with 10 Delta variant cases recorded.

“Usually po, ang mga cases natin ay umaabot siya ng mga 10 to 20 cases a day. Sa ngayon, may time pong umabot tayo ng 400 plus. Kahapon po, ang kaso natin ay 300 plus,” he said.

Diclas said that once Delta variant cases entered the province infections started to rise.

Due to this, he said the province suspended its tourism and other crowd-drawing activities as well as implemented strict border controls to manage the COVID-19 situation.

At least 465 people in Benguet had died due to the illness.

According to Diclas, at least 55,796 of the province's 280,000 target population had been fully vaccinated.

The province is expecting 52,000 more doses of COVID-19 vaccine that will be added to its supply, he added. — DVM, GMA News
