NDRRMC verifying reported casualty in Capiz due to Lannie

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is validating a reported casualty in Capiz due to Tropical Depression Lannie, its spokesperson said Wednesday.

Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita, NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said the casualty was reportedly a drowning victim.

“Meron po tayong natanggap na posibleng casualty dahil meron daw po tayong kababayan na nalunod diyan sa Capiz. But this is still being validated,” he said.

Many flooding incidents were reported in Western Visayas due to Lannie, according to the NDRRMC. Sixty-two people were evacuated and took shelter in the houses of their relatives and friends.

In Western Visayas, over P1.6 million worth of damage in agriculture was reported, the NDRRMC said.

Based on its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said five landslides were reported in Mimaropa, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas.

At least seven flooding incidents were reported in Mimaropa and Western Visayas.

According to the NDRRMC, seven families or 30 people were preemptively evacuated in Eastern Visayas.

Three roads are not passable in Mimaropa and Western Visayas, while five roads that were previously affected are now passable in Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas.

At least 77 sea ports suspended operations, of which, 32 already resumed in Mimaropa and Central Visayas.

Twelve passengers and 40 rolling cargoes were stranded in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.

Two class and work schedules were suspended in Eastern Visayas.

Meanwhile, heavy rains were also experienced in Casiguran, Aurora, which caused the river to overflow. Some commuters were stranded, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Wednesday.

 

In San Fernando, Camarines Sur, heavy rains were also reported, but no flooding occurred.

At 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Lannie was located at 670 kilometers west of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour, gustiness of up to 55 kph, and central pressure of 1002 hPa, according to state weather forecasters PAGASA in its latest report.

It is moving west northwestward at 25 kph, PAGASA said.

Lannie, which made over half a dozen landfalls, is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the day. —KBK/KG, GMA News
