PCG inspects possible oil spill after vessel runs aground off Nasugbu, Batangas

Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday conducted inspection for possible oil spill after vessel LCT Metal Hawk ran aground and eventually listed in the waters off Nasugbu, Batangas amid rough seas brought by Severe Tropical Storm Maring.

In its incident report, the PCG said the distressed vessel has 17 crew members on board when it encountered an engine trouble Tuesday morning. None of the crew members were injured during the incident.

The vessel is owned and operated by Marine Vest Company based in Surigao del Sur, according to the PCG.

The Coast Guard said according to the captain of the vessel, the LCT Metal Hawk departed from Subic Port in Zambales on October 9 loaded with 1,000 metric tons of sand. It was bound for Nasugbu Port in Batangas.

PCG Substation Nasugbu and Marine Environmental Protection Group–Batangas immediately rendered assistance and inspected the area for possible oil spill.—AOL, GMA News
