P46 million worth of damage reported in Cagayan after Maring —PDRRMO

At least P46 million in damage to agriculture, infrastructure, and livestock was reported in Cagayan due to Severe Tropical Storm Maring, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said Wednesday.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, PDRRMO head Colonel Darwin Sacramed said that P34 million worth of damage was reported in agriculture, P11 million in infrastructure, and P1.2 million in livestock.

“Ang total estimate ng damage ni Bagyong Maring ay umabot po ng P46 million ]The estimated total of damage due to Maring has reached P46 million],” he said.

Some families are still staying in evacuation centers and power interruption is still being encountered in some towns and barangays in Cagayan, according to him.

At least two barangays are still affected by floods, he added.

Sacramed said there were two casualties in the province, while one is still being validated.

At least 13 people were reported dead while nine were missing due to the onslaught of Maring, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

In an 8 a.m. update, the NDRRMC added that a total of 21,511 people or 6,111 families were affected by Maring in 237 barangays in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, and Cordillera. — BM, GMA News
