18-year-old allegedly rips off P8 million from online selling

An 18-year-old was arrested in Cavite after allegedly defrauding customers around P8 million using her online shop, according to a report from Emil Sumangil on "24 Oras."

The suspect, identified as Chase Jasmine Santos, allegedly scammed people through her clothing shop “BT’S Wardrobe,” which has thousands of followers.

“By the name itself, BT'S, mabilis ito, very catchy sa kabataan,” Lieutenant Colonel Benedict Poblete of the Cavite police said.

“Most of the victims are youngsters, young business wannabes,” he added.

Santos has been running her alleged scam for two years, offering branded clothes for a lower price than the current market value.

Complainants “Jaja” and “Melody,” both minors, reportedly purchased around P700, 000 and P100, 000 worth of merchandise respectively for their own online businesses.

The products, however, were never delivered.

“Lahat po is nagfe-fail, kahit nung first batch po wala ‘rin pong dumadating, tapos tanggap lang po sila nang tanggap ng pera,” Melody said.

Jaja and Melody also lamented about being labeled as scammers and receiving hate and backlash from their own customers as a result of the scam.

“‘Yong pera ‘po na yun hindi naman akin ‘yon, tapos hindi naman po mayaman ‘yong family namin para mag-abono ng ganoon kalaki,” Melody said.

Santos explained that some of the products purchased from her were not delivered by her suppliers, and that she has been issuing refunds to her customers.

“Yung products nila hindi pa po dumadating sakin. That’s why po nagpapartial refunds na lang po ako sa kanila kasi alam ko naman po na naiipit lang po sila katulad ko po at bata pa po yang mga yan,” Santos said.

Santos promised to return the money of her alleged victims.

Poblete reminded citizens to be careful when engaging in transactions and payments over the internet.

“If you want to do business, you better practice COD, cash on delivery,” he said.

To date, the group “BT’S wardrobe” has not yet been blocked in social media. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA News
