Unidentified gunmen ambushed the convoy of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr., wounding the local chief executive and a member of his staff.

Adiong and his wounded staffer were brought to the provincial hospital in Kalilangan.

Lanao del Sur Representative Zia Adiong, the governor's brother, said he was already "out of danger."

"Through the grace of Allah (SWT), Gov. Bombit is in stable condition. The worst has passed. He’s out of danger, inshaa Allah," Zia said on Facebook.
