Worldwide coronavirus cases cross 44.2 million, death toll at 1,169,580

More than 44.2 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,169,580? have died, according to a Reuters tally.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.

The top five countries with the most number of cases are:

  1. United States - 226,804 deaths out of 8,812,255 cases
  2. India - 120,010 deaths out of 7,990,322 cases

  4. Brazil- 157,946 deaths out of 5,439,641 cases 
  5. Russia - 26,935 deaths out of 1,563,976 cases 
  6. Argentina - 35,541 deaths out of 1,198,695 cases

In the Philippines, the number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines climbed to 376,935 on Thursday after the Department of Health announced 1,761 new infections.

Meanwhile, 740 more patients have recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 329,848, while 33 new fatalities brought the death toll to 7,147. -Reuters with GMA News
