Worldwide coronavirus cases cross 72.26M, death toll at 1,628,022 —Reuters tally

More than 72.26 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,628,022 have died, according to a Reuters tally.
   
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.

The US leads with 16,495,364 cases and 301,085 deaths.

It is followed by:

• India: 9,906,165 cases and 143,709 deaths
• Brazil: 6,927,145 cases and 181,835 deaths

• France: 2,391,447 cases and 59,072 deaths

The Philippines is 28th on the list with 451,839 cases and 8,812 deaths. —Reuters
