Nowadays, it’s not just grown-ups who can be fashionistas. Kids can be fashion-forward as well! While it can be tricky, it's important part to dress kids in trendy, yet age-appropriate outfits. To help moms, dads, older siblings, aunts, and uncles everywhere, “Fashbook” host Solenn Heussaff and kids’ stylist Monica Ravanera share a few tips for dressing up kids.
CASUAL WEAR FOR BOYS
Short-sleeved polo shirts and button down polos made of cotton should be a staple in any little boy’s closet. These are more formal than regular t-shirts, but the material is very cool and sweat absorbent, so your little man can still play around without getting sweaty too quickly. For more formal get-togethers, long-sleeved polos with rolled up sleeves will do the trick. Choose ones in bright colors or prints to make him stand out.

Khaki pants and bright colored shorts are the bottoms of choice for boys this summer. They don’t look as heavy as the usual dark denim jeans but are just as functional and comfortable.

CASUAL WEAR FOR GIRLS
Brightly colored and printed skirts and shorts are in for little girls this summer. Pair them with sleeveless tops in solid colors to get a cute and laid back look.

If your little girl is into a more girly look, get her a couple of light colored mini-dresses. Pair them with open-toed sandals for a stroll outside or closed flats for a nice dinner out with the family.

FORMAL WEAR FOR BOYS
Formal wear for little boys is very similar to that of adults. If your little guy is wearing dark colored slacks, pair these with a light colored long sleeved polo. If he’s wearing light colored slacks, pair these with a dark colored one. Finish the look with leather shoes and a cute little tie or bow tie. Suit jackets are optional.

FORMAL WEAR FOR GIRLS
There are a lot of choices for formal wear for little girls. Generally, dresses or mini-dresses in heavier fabrics are great for formal occasions, especially if you will be in an air-conditioned venue. Otherwise, dresses in lighter fabrics will do just fine. Slip a pair of closed flats in a matching color on your little girl’s feet and a small matching bag on her shoulder to complete the look. Hair accessories like headbands and clips are good little extras too.

Kids’ stylist Monica Ravanera reminds us that when dressing children, we should always consider comfort first: "Hindi nila kaya ‘yung sinasabi na ‘tiis-ganda.’” So always fit make sure your kids try on their clothes and shoes first, and ask them how they feel before making a purchase.
