Analyst Heydarian's take on the importance of May 13 polls

The May 13 midterm elections will serve as a barometer on how President Rodrigo Duterte fared in his first three years in office, according to GMA resident analyst Prof. Richard Heydarian on Tuesday.

"Para sa akin ito yung pinakamahalagang eleksyon in a sense na dito natin mako-confirm or mari-reject yung nangyari sa 2016 elections," he said in an interview on Unang Balita.

"Kasi kung maalala mo, ang ating portrayal of the 2016 elections is some sort of a protest vote. Napagod ang tao, they wanted change. So ngayon, three years in, ang tanong sa tao is, 'Do you like yung style ni Pangulong Duterte?'"

"Referendum ito kay Pangulong Duterte," Heydarian added.

Heydarian noted that the upcoming elections is the biggest in terms of eligible voters where over 50 million could cast their votes.

He added that Duterte's "legacy legislation" will be dependent on the next composition of the Senate.

"It's possible na kung umiba ang composition ng Senate na ito, President Duterte could push for yung mga legacy legislations niya," Heydarian said.
