Analyst Heydarian's take on Duterte's 4th SONA

GMA resident political analyst Prof. Richard Heydarian on Tuesday said President Rodrigo Duterte delivered on Monday what must be his "most disciplined, calibrated and comprehensive" State of the Nation Address (SONA) yet.

Even with his late start and off-script remarks, Duterte was able to cover a lot of key issues during his SONA.

The political analyst, however, stressed that this year's SONA was the most important, as it was an opportunity for the President to tell the Filipino people what he intends to leave behind in the last three years of his presidency.

Duterte's speech this year lasted one hour and 33 minutes.

According to Heydarian, the President was able to cover at least four major issues, including the West Philippine Sea issue — to which the President seemed to show a more "nuanced" approach.

Duterte also took the time to air his frustrations and disappointment over the persistence of corruption and the illegal drug problem in the country.

He voiced many demands from lawmakers and government officials, including the reinstatement of the death penalty and streamlining further the ease of doing business.
