PHL embassies accepting nominations for OFW Presidential Awards

Philippine embassies around the world are accepting nominations for the Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas.
The website of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, United Arab Emirates says, "Any individual or organization, whether Filipino or foreign, based in the Philippines or overseas may submit nominations for the awards. Nominations can be submitted through the Philippine Embassy, directly to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), or online through www.cfo.gov.ph. The awards may be given posthumously." Nominations submitted by mail or online must be received by the CFO on or before June 15, 2012. The nominee may be disqualified if the required documents are incomplete. The awards have been given to 338 Filipino individuals and organizations from 44 countries since it started.
The awards ceremony will be held in December 2012 at Malacañan Palace. The details can be accessed at http://www. 2012presidentialawards.cfo. gov.ph/.
The late President Corazon Aquino signed Proclamation 276 which declared December as Overseas Filipinos Month.
In 1991, Mrs. Aquino issued Executive Order No. 498 institutionalizing the awards and naming it the Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas. The Presidential awards is a tribute to overseas Filipinos and it also encourages OFWs to participate in nation building.
"The Executive Order specifically designated the CFO to develop an awards system for Filipino individuals and organizations overseas who have contributed, in the form of selfless programs and endeavors, to our country’s relief, rehabilitation and development programs," the PHL Dubai Consulate General's website said. - VVP, GMA News
