'Sino ba ang Pinoy?' lecture held in Jakarta

A renowned Filipino theater director and composer Lutgardo Labad recently delivered in Indonesia a lecture on the Philippine culture and identity titled "Sino ba...ano ba ang Pinoy?"  Held at the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta on February 9, the lecture was delivered to representatives of the Filipino community, the embassy, and the Philippine Permanent Mission to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). According to a news release of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday: "Mr. Labad brought his audience back to the exceptional periods of theater, cinema, art and music and introduced them to the great personalities that made their mark and substantial contribution to Philippine Culture."   Labad is a pioneering artist of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and has chaired the Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage Council since 2005.   He is also artistic director of the Community Theater Collectives for Sustainable Tourism in four towns in Bohol: Maribojoc, Anda, Cortes and Antiquera.   Labad is also remembered as the composer of the music for the movies "Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang" (Lino Brocka, 1974), "Ganito Kami Noon Paano Kayo Ngayon" (Eddie Romero, 1976), "Bilangin Mo ang Mga Bituin sa Langit" (Elwood Perez, 1989), and "Magnifico" (Mario de los Reyes, 2005) all of which won Labad an award for best film score. - VVP, GMA News
