Saudi Arabia needs 500 doctors, 800 nurses who are Muslims
Saudi Arabia— the top host country for Filipino science professionals — is in need of 500 doctors and 800 nurses who are Muslims. GMA-7’s 24 Oras reported on Friday that the oil-rich kingdom is open to these medical professionals, who can earn an equivalent of P325,000 and P35,000 a month for doctors and nurses, respectively. However, POEA-XI officer in charge Ma. Carolina Agdamag reminded applicants to be wary of those offering these jobs online and confirm the recruitment outfit’s authenticity at the POEA website. “Itong mga nag-aapply, kailangan naka-register sila online… kasi du’n din ho natin titingnan ‘yung mga nagsa-submit ng mga applications,” she said. According to a recent study conducted by the Philippine government’s Science Education Institute (SEI), Saudi Arabia is the top destination for Filipinos working in the field of science and technology. The study, released by the SEI earlier this week, said an average of 9,066 Filipino science professionals have been employed in Saudi Arabia during the period of 1998 to 2009, with 65 percent working in nursing and midwifery. Separate data from the POEA show that the oil-rich kingdom is the top destination for all land-based overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were deployed in 2010. In 2010, out of some 293,049 Filipinos who went to work in Saudi Arabia, 8,771 were nurses. - VVP, GMA News
