Pinoy journalists feted in Australia
Members of the Filipino-Australian media were recently feted in Sydney for their 36 years of service to the Filipino community, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Thursday. In a news release, the DFA said the gathering, dubbed "Adhika," was held at the Burwood RSL Club on March 25. "The event featured a display of Filipino community newspapers since 1975, cultural presentations, and a preview of Sydney-based Filipino chef Marx Canoy's cookbook on Philippine cuisine," the DFA said. It added the event was initiated by community radio stations, Radio Kawayan, Radio Sandigan, and Radio Dalisay. The guests and speakers at the event included State Member of Parliament for Riverstone Kevin Conolly, who represented New South Wales' (NSW) Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello. Conolly congratulated the members of the Filipino-Australian media in NSW for their contribution to the development, not only of the Filipino community, but also of the local community. "He noted that through its publications and radio and online programs, the Filipino media has provided relevant information, news and entertainment and, most importantly, has kept the rich Philippine heritage alive for the young generation of Filipino-Australians," the DFA said. Meanwhile, Philippine Consul General Anne Louis acknowledged the pioneering efforts of Jaime Pimentel, convenor of the group FilPressSyd.
