Pinoy brothers take center stage in Guam art exhibit
Two Filipino brothers, both artists in Guam, took center stage in the fourth monthly exhibit of the Philippine Consulate General in Agana. Brothers Meliton "Mel" Santos, Jr. and Michael "Mike" Santos were featured at the Consulate General and the Guam Filipino Artists' fourth monthly exhibit. "The Santos brothers are both in the field of photography. Their exhibit consisted mainly of captured images of scenery and landscape in Guam and the Philippines, including photos taken in Corregidor by Mike Santos," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a news release. Mike is a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science at the University of Guam. His interest in photography began when he was in college. He and a friend produced the 2006 Guam scenic calendars which were sold in local stores in Guam. He is now a freelance event photographer. Mel owns a construction company in Guam and does photography only as a hobby. His passion for photography is also fueled by his love for his children, his favorite subjects. One of Mike's photos is entitled "Corregidor", showing the walls of ruined buildings on the island. Another photo entitled "Brotherhood" captured a bronze statue of two soldiers against the backdrop of the ruins in Corregidor. In the photo, one of the soldiers was depicted as helping the other who was injured. "These photographs are very timely and relevant to the recent celebration of the Philippine holiday, Araw ng Kagitingan," the DFA said. Consul General Bayani Mangibin and Speaker Judith Won Pat of the 31st Guam Legislature led the ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Sen. Dennis Rodriguez Jr. and other members of the GFA, Filipino community and the Consulate General's media friends also attended the event. - VVP, GMA News
