Four Filipino Catholic archbishops will receive the symbolic Pallium, a white wool symbolizing the office of the archbishop, from Pope Benedict XVI in Rome on June 29, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said.

A news article posted on the CBCP website said the pope will confer the pallium on archbishops appointed in 2011 during a Mass at the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Basilica.

Those expected to receive the pallium, the last stage of an archbishop's appointment, are:
  • Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila
  • Jose Advincula of Capiz
  • John Du of Palo
  • Romulo Valles of Davao

"The papal pallium is a liturgical insignia of the archbishop made of white wool, which symbolizes the office of archbishop, particularly their bond and shared responsibility with the pope to be pastors in their regions," the CBCP said.

The four Filipino prelates left for Rome this week, with some of their priests and close relatives.

Each year on the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, the Pope gives a pallium to newly-installed archbishops around the world.

Last year, Archbishops Jose Palma of Cebu and Sergio Utleg of Tuguegarao also received the same honor at the Vatican. - VVP, GMA News
