A Filipina faced a United Arab Emirates (UAE) court on Thursday for allegedly impersonating a married workmate to get a fake birth certificate for her out-of-wedlock child.

The 27-year-old Filipina was accused of forging her colleague’s passport and posting her photo on it, the news site Khaleej Times reported on Friday. The complainant was the 31-year-old working Filipina whose passport was forged by the defendant, who was working in the human resources department of a company in the UAE.

The report said that before the Court of First Instance, the defendant, who was not named in the report, faced charges of:
  • forgery and use of forged official document,
  • use of authentic document belonging to others, and
  • illicit consensual sex.

The prosecutors claimed that the Filipina obtained a birth document for her daughter in the name of another woman, a fellow Filipina.

The defendant also admitted that she had out-of-wedlock sex with a runaway compatriot and had an illicit daughter with him, the report said.

When she gave birth in June last year, she submitted the forged passport to the Preventive Medicine Department of the Ministry of Health and got a birth certificate.

In August last year, the complainant said the defendant requested her passport and that of her husband’s, claiming that the Free Zone Authority wanted to verify them.

The couple gave her their passports, which the defendant returned some time later.

In March, the complainant found out that  the defendant had forged her passport to get a child-birth document.

The complainant also found out that they were registered as the child’s parents.
