A news release of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the contest was held on July 21 at the Vega Hall in Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture.

UPLBCE, conducted by Vonn Lomarda, was awarded for its performances in the romantic and contemporary categories, the DFA said.

The choir competed against groups from Indonesia, China, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, and Japan.

Meanwhile, on July 22, the UPLBCE performed its first concert outside of the Philippines in an event organized by the Filipino community in Suita City in Osaka.

"The concert was well attended by both Filipinos and Japanese.  Members of the Philippine Consulate General in Osaka also attended to show their support to the singers," the DFA said.
