Under extreme weather conditions, Filipino ultramarathoner Cesar Guarin ran 110 kilometers in five days in April for the Kuwait leg of his Global Run. According to the Global Run Facebook page, Guarin finished the Kuwait leg of his run on April 29. The page said Guarin has so far covered 429 kilometers in the Middle East. The 57-year-old Guarin said the heat, not the distance, made the Kuwait leg of his run difficult, a report of State of the Nation's Bam Alegre said. “Mainit pero buti malamig pa ang hangin hanggang ngayon,” said a smiling Guarin, adding that “it was a really nice run.” After a 12-hour flight from Kuwait, Guarin is now in Riyadh to continue the Global Run's Middle East phase which covers 1,265 kilometers. OFWs as inspiration In an earlier report, Guarin said his inspiration in his Global Run comes from overseas Filipino workers whom he meets when traveling to different countries. “They have sacrificed a lot to give their families a better way of life and they have made a great contribution to our economy. Going on this global run is a way to let them know that their efforts are appreciated” Guarin said. In his Global Run, Guarin aims to cover 42,000 kilometers in 47 countries. Running around the world is feat that has only been completed by three people so far. Once he completes the Global Run, Guarin will be the fourth person and the first Filipino and Asian to have run around the globe. - Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
