A Malaysian court has sentenced a Filipina and her son to two years in jail for giving false information in obtaining Malaysian identification documents.
Musadia Alpah, 43, and son Azimar Jainal, 24, admitted before a sessions court in Kota Kinabalu to giving false information in seeking the document, Malaysia's The Star Online reported.
Both were charged for violating Section 56(1)(k) of the Immigration Act, which provides for up to five years in jail and a fine of up to RM10,000. The report said the two Filipinos falsified documents as they tried to obtain a IMM13 identification document for Filipino immigrants. The immigration department noted that Masudia had a valid IMM13 document but it was scheduled to expire on May 21.
According to the report, an investigation showed that Masudia and her son went to the Immigration Department on March 25 to apply for a new IMM13 document for Azimar.
However, they were arrested when officials discovered the false information the Filipinos provided.
The report noted that Masudia previously held a similar document that expired on May 21, 2003. The names of her two sons, Basir Jainal and Azimar, were included in it.
Basir and Azimar's names were reportedly removed from Masudia's IMM13, and the document issued for Azinar was used instead by one Yassir John Salleh, The Star Online explained.
