OFW in Kuwait accuses employer of hitting her with baseball bat

A Filipino worker in Kuwait has accused her employer of hitting her with a baseball bat, GMA News' Susan Enriquez reported on Balitanghali on Tuesday.

Maricris Matias Ledesma initially sought help from her fellow OFWs who all tried to give her morale support following the incident.

A cellphone video shows Maricris' legs, arms and back covered with bruises.

Maricris was heard on the video crying and telling the other OFWs not to talk too loud as they might be heard by her employer.

According to Maricris' kin, they have already informed the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) about the abuse.

Maricris is already under the custody of the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait and is preparing to file a complaint against her employer.

The government has banned the deployment of OFWs to Kuwait following reports of abuses on domestic workers, with some of them resulting in death.

The ban was lifted after Kuwait and the Philippines inked a Memorandum of Understanding on the protection of OFWs. —KBK, GMA News
