PHL labor officials come to the assistance of 6 underage OFWs

Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) officials in Saudi Arabia came to the assistance of six overseas Filipino workers who were not only ill-treated, but had also worked in the Kingdom despite being only between 15 to 16 years of age.

According to Philippine Labor Attache Nasser Munder, three of the underage OFWs were in their care, two others had been sent home, and a sixth OFW had been endorsed to them for deportation.

"Meron pa rin tayong policy na bawal pumunta para magtrabaho abroad yung below 23-years-old," Munder told GMA 7 news program 24 Oras Weekend on Saturday.

Aside from being underage and mistreated, the employers of some of these distressed OFWs had also withheld the salaries of their Filipino employees for several months.

Meanwhile, Munder wanted an investigation started to find out how these OFW minors were able to leave the country to work overseas. — DVM, GMA News
