Pinoys in South Korea advised to be vigilant as Typhoon Hinnamnor nears

By GMA News

The Philippine Embassy in Seoul urged Filipinos living in South Korea to remain vigilant with Typhoon Hinnamnor expected to hit the country this week.

In an advisory issued Sunday, the embassy advised Filipinos to continue monitoring developments on the "very strong" storm.

“The Filipino Community is further advised to observe the usual precautions when traveling or undertaking outdoor activities during inclement weather,” it said.

Hinamnor is the 11th typhoon to hit South Korea this year.

According to a report from Reuters, the government is now bracing for the typhoon, which is seen to become the strongest storm in the country's history.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall southwest of the port city of Busan early on Tuesday, after reaching waters off Jeju Island later on Monday, the report added.

Hinnamnor entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on August 31 and was renamed Henry. It weakened from a supertyphoon into a typhoon inside PAR before exiting on September 4.

Inside the country’s responsibility, Typhoon Henry brought severe winds and massive waves in North Luzon with Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 hoisted in Batanes and TCWS No. 1 in a portion of mainland Cagayan and the Babuyan Islands. One person died in the aftermath in the Ilocos Region, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported.
