102 distressed OFWS repatriated from Kuwait

Over 100 overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who were abused by their employers in Kuwait have been successfully repatriated, Balitanghali reported on Friday.

According to the report, a total of 102 arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Friday morning accompanied by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) administrator Arnell Ignacio.

The batch was among the 421 distressed OFWs who stayed at the shelter in Kuwait. The rest are being targeted to be repatriated by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) this January.

"Binenta po ako ng amo ko sa pangalawa ko pong amo. May dalawa siyang asawa kaya tinakasan ko po hindi ko kayang linisan yung bahay niya, kayod kalabaw po talaga," a returning OFW shared.

(I was sold by my original employer to my second employer, who has two wives. I escaped because I could not clean his house. It was really difficult.)

"Ayaw ko na po [bumalik], magtanim nalang po ako ng kamote, hindi ko na po sasabihin pero mahirap po," said another.

(I don't want to return. I'd rather plant kamote. It's really hard.)

According to DMW Undersecretary Hans Leo. J. Cacdac, apart from the reintegration program, they also offer psychosocial services, small business investment, and business training to returning OFWs. —Sherylin Untalan/KBK, GMA Integrated News
