No Filipinos hurt in Taiwan earthquakes - DMW

No overseas Filipino workers were injured in a series of earthquakes that hit Taiwan on Saturday morning, according to the Philippine government.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration recorded a magnitude 6.1 earthquake at 2:21 a.m. Saturday. It was followed by a magnitude 5.8 earthquake at 2:49 a.m.

In a statement, the Department of Migrant Workers said its offices in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung are continuously monitoring the situation and ready to assist any OFWs who may have been affected by the earthquakes.

“DMW MWOs (Migrant Workers Offices) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officers and personnel are working with Filipino communities and leaders, local authorities, and employers to ascertain the safety and status of OFWs,” the statement read.

On April 3, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake jolted Taiwan, the strongest earthquake to hit the island in the last 25 years, killing 14 people. Four Filipinos were injured. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
