Erwin Tulfo wants zero hospital bills for OFWs, families
Senatorial candidate and ACT-CIS party-list Representative Erwin Tulfo is seeking zero hospital bills for Overseas Filipino Workers and their families through full coverage from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
In a statement issued Thursday, Tulfo raised that this proposal would incentivize the sacrifices and the contribution to the economy of Filipino migrant workers.
“This will be a huge relief for OFWs, especially those who earn just enough to support their families. They sacrifice so much by being away from their loved ones, and they shouldn’t have to worry about hospital expenses too,” Tulfo said.
According to the senatorial bet, the state insurer only covers a portion of medical expenses of OFWs and their families, which costs them out-of-pocket expenses.
“If PhilHealth can cover at least half of the bill, that would already be a big help. But imagine if OFWs and their families didn’t have to pay anything at all,” he added.
Tulfo said his suggestion came after his OFWs raised this concern during his visit to Paris, France for Barrio Fiesta 2025 early in March.
Apart from this proposal, Tulfo earlier said that he is eyeing to file a bill that will mandate PhilHealth to include the coverage of doctors’ professional fees in their benefit packages. — Hana Bordey/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
