Pinoy worker falls to death while dismantling carnival ride in HK

A Filipino worker fell to his death while dismantling a ride at a carnival in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Vice Consul Alex Vallespin told GMA News Online on Thursday that Norman Canlas Padilla, 27, fell while dismantling a rollercoaster.

"Kahapon, nalaglag siya habang nagdi-dismantle ng isa sa mga rides dun sa carnival. Ni-report sa amin ng police, na-receive namin yung report kahapon, February 15," Vallespin said.

The rollercoaster was part of the AIA Great European Carnival, an annual event by The Great European Carnival Limited (TGEC).

According to a report on EJ Insight, the six-meter-high platform collapsed while it was being dismantled at the Central Harbourfront.

Padilla, who was unnamed in the report, hit his head on the ground and fell unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

His brother flew in from the Middle East to identify his body at the Victoria Public Mortuary, the report said.

"Ang advise namin sa kanila kanina, kumontak na ng funeral parlor para yung funeral parlor na yung magpo-process ng papers for authentication ng Consulate at yung transit, repatriation to Manila," Vallespin said.

Because Padilla was lawfully employed by TGEC, his repatriation and funeral charges will be paid for by the company.

"Ang nasa batas po is employer ang sasagot lahat. Wala pong gagastusin ang pamilya dahil nga po employed yung kababayan natin. Kami lang dito, ipo-process namin pag may mga hawak na pong punerarya," Vallespin said.
