Pinoys cautioned vs. fake job offers from Russia

The government has warned overseas Filipino workers against illegal recruiters offering fake jobs for household service workers in Russia.

The warning, contained in an advisory by Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) OIC Bernard Olalia, was given mostly to Filipino household workers in Hong Kong, Singapore and the Middle East.

POEA Advisory No. 17 stated that the Philippine Embassy in Athens, Greece noted an increasing number of illegal recruitment of Filipinos in Greece and Cyprus for deployment to Russia.

"The Embassy further cited that most are recruited from Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Middle East as household workers and are often charged huge fees by illegal recruiters," Olalia said in his advisory.

Filipino workers were reminded that Russia has no visa category for household service workers and holders of tourist or commercial visas are not allowed to work in Russia.

Olalia said "improperly documented workers are subject to detention, fines, and deportation." —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
