Cayetano wants speedy repatriation of OFW remains found in septic tank

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano is expecting that the repatriation of the body of the Filipino migrant worker whose remains were found in a septic tank in South Korea.

In an interview with reporters late Saturday evening, Cayetano said they have already identified the family members of the slain OFW in the Philippines through a DNA test.

"Sa tingin ko, ma-expedite na yan. Because number one, yung identification. Kasi ayaw mo naman pwedeng sabihin sa pamilya kung hindi ka sure. But the DNA's quite good, nag-match e," he said.

"So dahil nag-match ang DNA, pwede nang maiuwi ang remains at inaasikaso na ito," he added.

Cayetano said the family currently resides in Iloilo, but Cayetano refused to identify them pending further investigation and assistance.

The slain Filipino arrived in South Korea in 2016 and worked at the factory where the remains were found.

In the meantime, Cayetano said authorities are hunting down the primary suspect in the crime, who is reportedly also a former OFW.

Cayetano said the suspect is believed to be already in the Philippines.

"Ang initial na lead-in, nandito na. But separate ang may hawak nun, nasa police side. Sa embassy side, more on pag-asikaso ng remains at ma-inform ang pamilya at masigurado na kung sino," he said.

The Korean Embassy in the Philippines is also coordinating with the family of the slain OFW, he added. —Erwin Colcol/LBG, GMA News
