Accredited travel agencies allowed to process Korean visas

The Embassy of South Korea released on Friday a list of 35 accredited travel agencies allowed to process Korean visas.

In a notice on its website, the embassy said visa applications beginning July 1 will be processed only through these travel agencies due to the increase in visa applications:

Korean visa applications, the embassy said, increased from 90,000 in 2015 to 120,000 in 2016 and 160,000 in 2017.

"This increase in number of visa applicants caused the applicants to stand in hot weather outside the embassy for hours to wait in line for their turn to apply for respective visas," it said.

"To avoid such inconvenience, the embassy has designated 35 travel agencies to process temporary visitor’s visa application."

Walk-in applications for temporary visitor's visa will no longer be entertained from July 1, 2018.

The only walk-in applicants who will be accepted are spouses and children of Koreans, holders of visa issuance number, government employees with official business trip, and for those with humanitarian reason to travel to Korea urgently. —Rie Takumi/KBK/JST, GMA News
