66 Pinoy tourists safe in wake of Hokkaido quake —DFA


The 66 Filipino tourists who were caught in the magnitude 6.7 earthquake in Hokkaido on Thursday have all been reported safe by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement, the DFA said that a second group of 40 tourists who were in Sapporo during the earthquake reached out to the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo to confirm their safety.

Earlier, a group of 26 reported the same.

All 66 tourists will receive assistance in re-booking their flights back to the Philippines as Shinkansen train services and Chitose Airport resumed services on Friday.

Ambassador Jose C. Laurel said the Embassy is ready to provide assistance to affected Filipinos if needed and may be reached at +8180 4928 7979.
