DFA: No Pinoys hurt in magnitude 6.3 earthquake in Iran

No Filipinos were hurt in a magnitude 6.3 earthquake that hit Iran on Sunday evening, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Monday.

"Ambassador to Iran Wilfredo Santos informed the Home Office that the Philippine Embassy in Tehran was able to contact the 10 Filipinos in the affected areas and were told they are all safe," the DFA said in a statement.

The earthquake hit Iran’s western province of Kermanshah near its border with Iraq. According to Reuters, more than 700 were injured, with most suffering only minor wounds.

The Philippine Embassy said it will continue to monitor developments and necessary assistance will be extended to any Filipinos in need. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
