Japan may need 100,000 Filipino workers by April —DOLE

Some 100,000 jobs in Japan may be opened to qualified Filipino workers by next month, a radio report said Sunday.

Reporting on Super Radyo dzBB,  GMA News' Divine Reyes quoted Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III as saying that by April, 2019,  Japan may need 100,000 Filipino workers in various fields of employment.

He said the 100,000 job items is part of the 350,000 jobs Japan is planning to open to foreign workers.

According to Bello, DOLE is set to sign in Tokyo on Tuesday a memorandum of cooperation with representatives of Japan's ministries of justice, foreign affairs, health, labor and welfare, and national policy agency.

Needed labor skills that Japan may need will be laid down in the memorandum of cooperation, Bello added.

At present, Japan particularly needs workers in healthcare, maintenance, food services, electronics, agriculture, and construction, among others.

Prospective applicants need to pass the technical and language skills examination, the report said. —LBG, GMA News
