OWWA launches hotline for distressed OFWs

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has announced the launching  of a hotline to be able to deliver speedy response to calls for assistance from distressed OFWs.

OWWA officials have dedicated hotline 1348 for the purpose, GMA News' JP Soriano reported on "24-Oras" Saturday.

For calls outside Metro Manila, callers needs to dial (02) 1348; and for international calls, dial (0632) 1348. The hotline is open 24 hours everyday, the report added.

For the launching, the OWWA cited the  case of an OFW who has just arrived from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Aurora (not her real name), who worked as household service worker before she was rescued and sent home, claimed she was abused by her employers.

And it was only after she posted in social media her condition she was able to get the attention of KSA labor officials. She was rescued and repatriated.

The OWWA pointed out that the hotline is expected to help deliver swift assistance to OFWs in trouble abroad. —LBG, GMA News
