Remains of ‘abused’ Pinay arrive from Kuwait

The remains of the overseas Filipino worker who died in Kuwait allegedly due to physical abuse she suffered from her employer have arrived in the Philippines on Thursday.

According to GMA News' JP Soriano, the remains of 47-year-old Constancia Lago Dayag, a native of Agadanan, Isabela, arrived around 5 p.m.

Officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Labor and Employment-Overseas Workers Affairs Administration joined Dayag's family who were crying profusely as Dayag's remains were turned over to them in the airport.

Labor Secretary Silverstre Bello III earlier said Dayag was rushed to the Al Sabah hospital due to her injuries but was later declared dead on arrival.

According to Bello, Dayag had various contusions and hematoma. Worse, a cucumber was found inserted Dayag's body.

"Aside from apparent violation of the agreement on the protection of OFWs between our government and Kuwait, there appears to have been a breach of the employment contract by the foreign employer," Bello had said.

The Labor chief already ordered the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Kuwait to track down the foreign and local agencies responsible for Dayag's deployment. — Llanesca T. Panti/RSJ, GMA News
