DFA reminds Filipinos travelling to Hong Kong of prohibited items in transit


The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday reiterated its warning to all Filipinos travelling to or transiting through Hong Kong to make sure they are not carrying restricted items in their hand-carried or check-in luggage.

According to the advisory, items considered as "prohibited weapons" or "arms" include stun guns, pepper spray and other devices such as tear gas, bullets, batons, flick knives and knuckledusters.

These items are restricted are either the Aviation Security Ordinance or the Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance of Hong Kong.

"The Hong Kong authorities are strict with the enforcement of the said Ordinance,"  the DFA warned.

"All hand-carried and checked-in luggage of passenger are subjected to security screening in the airport terminals," it added.

Under Section 10, Aviation Ordinance, Cap. 494, Laws of Hong Kong, travelers arrested with prohibited weapons may face a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment and a fine of HK $100,000, the DFA said. —Margaret Claire Layug/NB, GMA News
