Fishing vessel with 7 Pinoys sank off Brunei waters —DFA

A fishing vessel carrying seven Filipino crewmen and four others sank off the coast of Brunei with only two survivors of unknown nationality rescued, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday.

Search and rescue for the remaining crew of Radims 2 ended Sunday, four days after the incident, the DFA said, citing a report from the Philippine Embassy in Brunei.

"The search and rescue operations were halted yesterday as no crewmembers in the identified search area, other than the two previously rescued, were found," a DFA statement said.

It did not say if Filipinos were among the survivors.

The last communication between the owner of Radims 2 and its captain was on Wednesday, August 7.

Since then, Brunei’s National Search and Rescue Coordination Committee has sought assistance from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency in locating the missing crewmembers, the DFA said.

Philippine officials in Brunei continue to monitor developments on the sea mishap, it added. —KG, GMA News
