DOLE advises Pinoys to postpone HK trips

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Friday advised Filipinos to put off traveling to Hong Kong amid ongoing clash between militants and state security forces.

"Mayroon kaming advisory, this is also joined by the Department of Foreign Affairs na 'yung mga pupunta sa Hong Kong, kung hindi naman masyado kailangan ang pagpunta nila doon ay i-postpone muna dahil this is not the best time to go to Hong Kong," Bello said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.

On the other hand, he assured that the Filipino workers there are safe.

"The situation is worsening but I'm very happy to say na wala pang nadadamay na Filipino overseas worker. Wala pang humihingi ng repatriation," Bello said.

Pro-democracy protesters continue to conduct activities at campuses, metro stations, and shopping malls.

"Hong Kong's rule of law has been pushed to the brink of total collapse," police spokesman Kong Wing-cheung said on Tuesday. — Dona Magsino/MDM, GMA News
