DFA: 33 more Filipinos abroad get COVID-19, total now at 1,677

The number of overseas Filipinos who have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) rose to 1,677 on Wednesday after the Department of Foreign Affairs recorded 33 new infections.

Seventeen more Filipinos have recovered from the illness, bringing the total number of recoveries abroad to 451, while patients undergoing treatment are at 1,025.

Meanwhile, the death toll also climbed to 201 with two new fatalities.

Europe has the highest number of COVID-19 positive Filipinos with 483 cases, 66 deaths, 301 undergoing treatment and 116 recoveries.

The Americas followed with 471 cases, including 115 fatalities, 113 recoveries, while 243 are undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, the Asia Pacific Region recorded 367 COVID-19 cases, two of whom have died, 157 are undergoing treatment and 208 have recovered.

In the Middle East or Africa, 356 Filipinos have been infected with the viral disease with 18 deaths, 324 undergoing treatment and 14 recoveries.

Globally, COVID-19 has infected over 3 million people and claimed more than 200,000 lives.

In the Philippines, a total of 8,488 cases have been reported, including 568 fatalities and 1,043 recoveries. -NB, GMA News
