Filipinos in Dubai told to observe precautions amid easing of restrictions

Filipinos in Dubai must not let their guard down even after COVID-19 restrictions have been eased to give way to the resumption of economic activity, the Philippine consulate general said Friday.

Dubai authorities allowed the gradual reopening of businesses starting on Wednesday although the nighttime curfew is still in place. The Middle East’s business hub hosts thousands of Filipino migrant workers.

“Nandiyan pa rin ho ang virus kaya’t kailangan may precautions pa rin,” Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes said in a televised briefing. “Gusto natin panatilihin ‘yung morale at tsaka protection ng ating mga kababayan dito.”

Cortes reported that the Philippine government extended cash aid to some 7,000 Filipino workers who have been displaced by the pandemic and assured continued assistance to Filipinos who wish to be repatriated.
