15 more Pinoys abroad test positive for COVID-19; total now at 8,869 — DFA

The Department of Foreign Affairs on Monday recorded 15 additional cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among Filipinos overseas, bringing the total number to 8,869.

The DFA also said total recoveries reached 5,276 after two more Filipinos recovered from the viral disease, while the death toll climbed to 619 with seven new deaths.

The Middle East/Africa remained as the region with the most number of COVID-19 positive Filipinos at 6,429 with 3,840 recoveries and 349 fatalities.

Europe followed with 1,053 cases including 469 recoveries and 95 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Americas reported 699 Filipinos infected with the illness, 410 of whom have recovered while 169 have died.

The Asia Pacific Region has 688 cases with 557 recoveries and five fatalities.

“The DFA personnel in our (foreign service posts) continue to actively monitor the status of the Filipino community abroad and work to safely repatriate more of our stranded nationals home,” the department said. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/RSJ, GMA News
