13 more Pinoys abroad get COVID-19; total rises to 9,569


Thirteen more Filipinos abroad have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) while no new deaths and recoveries were recorded on Sunday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

There are now 9,569 Filipinos abroad with COVID-19, 5,572 of whom have recovered while 671 have died.

The Middle East/Africa region has the highest number of Filipinos with COVID-19 at 6,770 with 3,970 recoveries and 395 deaths.

A total of 1,111 Filipinos in Europe have caught COVID-19, 509 of whom have recovered while 95 have died.

In the Asia Pacific region, 926 Filipino COVID-19 cases with 646 recoveries and six deaths have been recorded.

The Americas has the lowest number of overseas Filipino COVID-19 cases at 762, 447 of whom have recovered while 175 have died.

Meanwhile, the DFA said it has repatriated 115,793 since February.

“The DFA eyes to safely repatriate an estimated 100,000 nationals abroad within the next two months, keeping in mind the prevention of the further spread of COVID-19 infections in our country,” it said. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
