Philippines condoles with Lebanon following deadly explosion in Beirut

The Philippines on Wednesday offered condolences to the people of Lebanon after a massive explosion in Beirut that killed at least 100 people on Tuesday.

“The Philippines is in solidarity with the people of Lebanon in this period of great grief. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lebanese people,” President Rodrigo Duterte’s spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

The Palace also expressed sympathy with the families and friends of Filipinos who died or sustained injuries due to the explosion in the Lebanese capital.

Two Filipinos were killed

and eight were wounded in the incident, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, 11 Filipinos, mostly seafarers were reported missing.

“We are one with the families and friends of Filipinos who passed or were injured during the event. The Department of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to assist all Filipinos affected by the explosions through the Philippine Embassy in Beirut,” Roque said.

Roque earlier in the day said the government will step up its efforts to repatriate Filipinos in Lebanon.—AOL, GMA News
