DFA: Two more missing Filipino seafarers in Lebanon found

Two more missing Filipino crewmen of a cruise ship were recovered two days after a deadly explosion at a port in Beirut, Lebanon, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

Eleven of the 13 seafarers were earlier reported missing following the blast.

"Our embassy in Beirut has ascertained the conditions of all the 13 Filipino seafarers who were injured in the blasts that rocked the city recently," said Sarah Arriola, DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs.

Philippine Embassy in Beirut Charge d'affaires Ajeet Panemanglor visited eight of the seafarers staying at the company accommodations. The other five were at the hospital for a medical checkup.

The Filipino are crew members of the cruise ship Orient Queen, which was docked in the port of Beirut when the explosion occurred.

Two Filipinos were killed in the blast and 24 others were injured.

The blast, triggered by ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse for years, resulted in at least 100 fatalities and injured thousands, and caused widespread fire and damage throughout the city. —Michaela Del Callar/KBK, GMA News
